The Five Legends are, we think, starting at the top left, clockwise: Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin (sans moustache), Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, and Errol Flynn in the center. There is apparently a sixth, the hard-to-spot, impish-looking rotund fellow we take to be actor and director Orson Welles, but as occasionally happens with Hollywood directors, he did not make the final cut.
Mr. Flynn seems to have a pair of vastly different-sized hands. This appalling misapplication of perspective could be forgiven if they both weren’t attached to the same forearm. Anyway make of it what you will.
Consider this a companion piece to The Three Legends, completed the previous year.
