OK everybody, listen up. All hands on deck!

On the left, the hand of Harriet Young.
On the right, the hands of Merle Spandorfer.

Not shown: the guiding hand of Stuart Davis, father of American modernist painting, watching over yet another up-and-coming 20th century American artist.

The use of actual words as a compositional element is a Davis conceit, but as usual Harriet has her own take on things and works it into a comedic subplot, as the Vegas Floor Show hepcat plays electrifying JAZZ that sends out a charge that unravels some perfectly good dreadlocks.
